The Silent Room

AnoHana is a story about six childhood friends who, after a tragic accident, drifted apart from each other. Our main character here is Jinta, a shut-in who stays at home playing games and sleeping all day long. It was a hot summer day when Menma, one the friends of his childhood starts bugging him about fulfilling a wish she made as a child.

There’s only one problem: she couldn’t remember what her wish was.

A: “Does this show have tits and blood?”
B: “Uh, no. It’s about students in an agricultural university.”
C: “Fuck that shit, put something on with tits and blood!”
D: “Yeah, tits and blood!”

At one point, I realised that The Tatami Galaxy is a story about choice and repetition. It’s about figuring out the mistakes of your youth, and identifying which part of your life that went wrong. The narrator kept blaming the various clubs he joined as the source of his misery, completely forgetting the fact that he was largely the architect of his own demise.

Do I think it’s awesome?
Nope.

Do I think it’s funny?
Not really.

Would I recommend it?
That depends on who is asking.
