The Site

This site is a digital manifestation of myself. It is a part of me, as I myself am a part of it. This site is more than just a blog. I have in here a collection of my thoughts, my photography, my comic strip as well as my other artistic productions. However, a large part of the site [especially outside the blog] is under construction, so there may be plenty of bugs/errors and design failures. I’ll try to make some time to get them up and spiffy as soon as possible ;)

    The Blog
For the most part, this is what the site is made of. I have been writing since I was small, thanks to the upbringing of my parents. I have ever since been fond of writing, as it was almost a form of escapism for me. I write out whatever it was on my mind, whatever I felt like saying, whatever I felt like sharing. I mostly write for my own sake, but sometimes I write for people, too.

I started writing online when I started sending articles for publication at Xfresh. I wrote quite a lot of article and got most of them published. After much contribution, they invited me over to their HQ for little gathering. I gave some opinions for the site, and they decided to take me in as part of the crew.

I got a job there as a webjournalist. Which basically mean that I would be providing the site with fresh articles every week, as well as maintaining a big part of the website’s written content. For about 6 months of working with them I wrote quite a lot of articles, in both English and Malay. Writing has turned out to be a whole new experience for me.

I tried writing a short prose, and ended up with a 5-part Warcraft fanfiction which you can read here. It was fun, but it consumed quite a lot of energy. I also found that such things happen only at a spur of the moment. Neverhteless, I have quite a few fictions to write, some I believe could [given the right production team] become hit movies!

The Categories
Here’s a little explanation should you be curious about the categories and what they’re about

  • Anime - Title speaks for itself
  • Cybersports - About games, gaming and stuff related to them :)
  • Eggheads - Basically it acts as a notifier for the newest strip, but sometimes I also write about them instead of putting up a strip.
  • Fooooood - Title speaks for itself
  • Fun Stuff - Basically simple stuff that can make me smile. I post them in hopes that they will make you smile, too.
  • Grey Matter - Parts of my brain that matter. Since most of this site is in black and white, I thought it could use a bit of greyness here and there >:D
  • Mr. Hyde - My angsty little self. Also the one who speaks the voice of reason. On calmer days his writings can be found in the Grey Matter category.
  • Personal - My own silent voice. This is where I mainly am. This section of full of me. Everything in there is me.
  • Simple Words - Sometimes I write poetry when I get in the mood. It’s not something I do very often.
  • Site Updates - Title speaks for itself
  • Tech-talk - I geek. Therefore I am.
  • The Silentscope - It works just like the Eggheads category, except that it’s for my photography. Phoos posted in this category comes from the gallery page. I decided to include this category because sometimes I also write about photography rather than just posting photos.

    The Silentscope
I was never quite into photography. The first camera I bought for myself was a lousy Ricoh film camera that I paid a measly RM75 for. Yes, even a RM25 webcam is more advanced than that piece of crap. One day, I decided that I had a lot of money to spend. Seriously!

Since I knew nuts about electronics back then, I asked Shaz to help me pick a good digicam. We went all over Bukit Bintang and finally stopped at a shop in Lowyat. I then bought my first digicam, the Canon Powershot A60 for RM999 [nice number right?].

Back then, I couldn’t decide between Sony or a Canon. But a hunch told me to go with the Canon instead. Sure enough, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I slowly learned to operate the manual functions, learning what does what to what and how it affects the outcome. Unfortunately, I put screwed the tripod on too hard on it and tore the inner threads of the camera’s tripod mount.

When I sent it in for repairs, the shopkeeper suggested that I trade it in for a new one. Realising that it’s a steal, I went ahead and got myself a brand spanking new Canon Powershot A95. It had almost the same as the A60, but with greater megapixel count, optical and a flip screen! I continued to have loads of fun with it until the day I got to play with a Panasonic Lumix FZ30.

The FZ30 is not a point-and-shoot [PnS] like the Canon A-series. It’s a bloody prosumer-class digicam. It had a ridiculously powerful 12x optical zoom, but it has poor sensor performance at high ISO. Noise was unbearable, so I went back to good old A95.

When my mum and sis decided to go on a holiday to Australia, I let them borrow the A95 because they were afraid the carry the FZ30. When they got back, my sister decided to fall in love with the cute little monster that is the A95.

Since she wanted it so much, I decided to sell it to her [for a good price] and with sponsorship from my mom [who probably recognised my passion for photography], I bought another digicam for myself; the Canon Powershot A700. The best way to describe this gem is probably through the few new photos that I have uploaded to the gallery.

I had the A700 with me for a few months before it got stolen when I went shopping at Sg. Wang plaza. The loss put me in serious depression because the loss happened to be part of a chain of misfortunes. In a turn of luck, I received some allowance from my [former] scholarship programme and grabbed the Canon S3IS. I have since then taken the cam everywhere and thanks to 432mm-equivalent zoom and a fairly bright aperture at the tele end (2.7-3.5), I’ve had the pleasure of taking wonderful pictures that have made me very proud of myself.

Along the way, I geek photography with my good friend Albert, who also geeks toys and computers with me. We meet and we geek. Wait, that sounds gay. We often meet up and we geek out about stuff. But mostly on digital photography. I slowly learned about exposure, creative shooting, filters etc. We were both teachers and we were both students. It was an awesome experience as we wowed and tried to outdo each other will cool pictures ‘normal’ people don’t shoot.

I also developed my own sense of style on photography, and have pretty strong ideals about the pictures I take. It’s probably born from my own arrogance, but I rather think of it as an artists’ pride. I take pictures not just for the sake of taking pictures. I want to send messages across, I want to reach out to people, but of course, I also want to take pretty pictures :)

    The Eggheads
They are my own little cretins creations, each of them with their own roles, personalities and stories to tell. No, they’re not mascots, but rather, a representative. They appear on my behalf to wish you on celebrations and they make for great merchandising [just kidding].

They are not to be taken for granted, however. They celebrate the people who can appreciate them but can also be quite harsh to people who get anal with them.

I’ve had thoughts of letting them be in black and white [BnW] but then they would literally lose colour [pun intended] and they wouldnt be happy it. But in strips with more than 3 panels, I leave the colours to be flat rather than shaded like most other strips.

I must aplogise for not making them a regular appearance on the site, but I’m not a person who can think of a jokes so easily. It takes me a while or an incident to make me think of something funny. Drawing and colouring them isnt so much effort as compared to thinking of something funny. I’d probably fail as a stand up comedian. Heheh.

However, they will continue to make appearances, whenever the humour bulb lights up in my head that is.

Thanks for your time, and have fun looking around the site!
