Small Talk:
Sorry, my comment system is was broken and I have had no idea how to fix it.

UPDATE: Okay, I got it fixed. Refer to the post above.

You know, I’m not really a big fan of politics. I’m not keen on participating in social movements or political activities. Simply because I don’t live on ideals and the thought of working to please others doesn’t quite sit well with me. However, this doesn’t mean I outright hate politics. I don’t, as a matter of fact, I’ve come to enjoy being an observer of the local political scene.

A sleeping observer, that is.

Now I’m not one to give any critical commentary or give a proactive voice to unheard thoughts. It’s just that it has been too interesting a year for Malaysian politics for anyone to not be aware of things. Especially those of us who spend many hours online.

Today, however, online is where the action is at. The alternative media has made a name for itself from the spectacular [or some may say devastating, depending on which side you're on] results for the recent elections. Social media has become a new element in the game, and now the players have taken the battlefield to the realm of ones and zeroes.

Some people have been around the ‘Net long enough to call it their home ground, as they were smart enough to see ahead. They knew the common mainstream newspapers and TV stations are bound to short leashes, and they knew it well. Instead of futilely trying to breach the mainstream, they decided to take the a different route, break new grounds and turns the tides in their favor.

A very well-informed minister said a few months ago, ‘out of 80,000 bloggers, 60,000 are unemployed women’. I may have gotten the figures off a bit but I’m sure that was how it went. It’s amusing to note that now, we have something similar in response to that. Out of 80,000 bloggers, three of them are in the Parliament. Furthermore, out of those 80,000, I have a good feeling that at least 80% of them voted for change. I’m not saying that such is an established fact, but from what I see, that seems to be the case.

In a desperate attempt to win the hearts of the public, the Front decided to breach into the internet. Whilst still bickering over petty differences and struggling for power and wealth, they made the valiant effort of approaching the People through the one channel they have no control over. It almost seemed as though they were begging for the People to hear their side of the story.

Such is the unfortunate and tragic drama of one Barisan Nasional blogger. In an effort to be sarcastic, this man’s writing only backfired upon himself, receiving well over 350 comments before the traffic borked and an alternative news website had to rescue the comments page by making a mirror out of it.

In fact, I later found out that he DELETED that entire blog post along with all those comments, but already too late because the mirror is now safely archived for the sake of humor in the future.

So for all those aspiring UMNO bloggers [or those from MIC and MCA who have thought to set foot into the internets], I suggest you visit this welcome page before you decide to proceed. Here’s a taste of what it’s like:

“Welcome to the Internet!

No one here likes you.

We’re going to offend, insult, abuse, and belittle the living hell out of you. And when you rail against us with “FUCK YOU YOU GEEK WIMP SKATER GOTH LOSER PUNK FAG BITCH!1!!”, we smile to ourselves. We laugh at you because you don’t get it. Then we turn up the heat, hoping to draw more entertainment from your irrational fuming.

We will judge you, and we will find you unworthy. It is a trial by fire, and we won’t even think about turning down the flames until you finally understand.”

Perhaps with its guidance, it will ease your journey and help you attain your goals.
