Space Sheriff Gavan OP, English Translation
March 3rd, 2008Quite frankly, I haven’t found a single translation of this song – which is actually quite awesome [for me at least]. Space Sheriff Gavan, better known in Malaysia as Space Cop Gaban, or simply just Gaban, was a popular tokusatsu show back in the late 80′s and early 90′s [for Malaysian TV, that is].
I remember spending my childhood watching BM dubs of these tokusatsu shows, alongside BM dubbed anime of the time. Tokusatsu at the time that I remembered loving were Gaban, Flashman, Maskman, Jetman, Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider Black, and of course, the various types of Ultraman [the first Ultraman, and Ultraman Ace, mostly]. Unfortunately though, out of all of these shows, I only remember the songs from Jetman and Gaban.
Here’s a gripe, though – the OP songs for these old shows were EXTREMELY hard to find. I had to scour the net for days to find a working link for the full song, instead of an audio rip of the TV clip sequence [which is abundant around Youtube]. Another thing is that while the lyrics to the full song is available, it’s in romanized Japanese, and there is no proper translation, except for the occasional lazyshit work done with Babelfish or Google’s Language Tools.
So I figured, I can do a decent guesslation, based on the Babblefish output and my basic Japanese skills. I took a stab at it, and figured that it turned out pretty well – except for maybe a weird sounding line or two. So, here it is, a translation I offer for the fans of the old days. Improve upon it as you see fit :D

Ahahahahaha, Ultraman Kids is awesome! I remember following almost all the episodes on TV3 when they showed it way back when. But for some reason, I MISSED THE LAST EPISODE!!! T_T It’s been haunting me ever since.

Speaking of Ultraman Ace, there is one localized episode where they actually translate the song they sung in the show. It sounded pretty good although I can’t recall the lyrics x.x
Silencers: I remember a localised Doraemon song. I think I remember the lyrics to that one ’cause it sounded quite plausible, too.

How can I download all the episodes of space sheriff gavan…I am from Greece and it is not easy to find them…Please sent me a site or some information to download it from somewhere…I will be very pleased…
Nice translation. One thing though: I’m pretty sure the “abayo” in the song is supposed to be “goodbye”, not “overflowing”. It fits with the other part of the chorus (Gavan! Goodbye (bad thing) Gavan! Hello (good thing)). I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s supposed to be, so do with this information what you will.
