Yeah, I know I haven’t really been blogging much lately.
I suppose it’s good thing, meaning that I’m not in front of the PC blogging all the time when I should be doing a lot of other stuff. Well, to tell you the truth, I haven’t been doing that much stuff, but yeah, I’ve been busy. More or less. I like to live in moderation :p
Most of the things I’ve done the past week have been mostly routine. Yeah, watching anime has now become a routine in my life, and I forgot since when. No, I’m not really up-to-date with the latest shows, much thanks to my wonderful ISP [/sarcasm]. Just that I’ve gotten hold of a quite a number of titles I’ve been meaning to watch for a long time.
Thankfully, I have plenty of friends who share the same passion in this field. Exchanging titles is nothing new to us collectors, especially when the media has gone digital and all. As of tonight, I just finished watching three whole series. Interestingly, they all come from interesting times. I like to think of them as samples of the anime of their time.
Cowboy Bebop
Any self-respecting anime fan will at least recognise this name, and most of them would have probably watched the whole thing anyway. I don’t know if I should call it sci-fi or spacepunk, if there is such a genre, lol. I find it amusing that in the eyecatch for several episodes, it showed a statement that said“The work that would later be known as a genre of its own will be called…
Cowboy Bebop.“I don’t care what you think about it, but I think the confidence in that simple sentence should say a lot about how kick ass this show is. Definitely something to remember from the late 90’s.
Azumanga Daioh
Here’s a poorly made GIF by me.
It was only after watching AzuDai that I realised what kind of standard has been set for school comedy anime. The last time I watched something that made me laugh so hard was School Rumble. But now I can rest feeling fulfilled after having a thorough helping of a legendary anime series.
Yes, Azumanga is truly a Dai-oh[Great King].
Read or Die: The TV
Yeah, so this show’s on Animax these days. At first I was quite excited that Animax was finally getting to Astro, but then I realised that watching anime on the PC has become the very essence of how I enjoy them. Being able to freely watch whatever and whenever I want, over and over again, instead of having to wait for it to air on TV, or to be distracted by commercials. So yeah, I got myself R.O.D. TV. I like it. Very much. Great story, nice action, and a creative plot. A refreshing run, if I may say so myself. Instant thumbs-up recommendation!
This one is a true diamond in the rough. It’s a mystical, supernatural anime that’s vibrant and colourful. It’s got amazing stories, extraordinarily beautiful art, and music that’s simply magical. To top it off, it doesn’t have an annoying character who is originally weak and grows stronger as he fights of gradually stronger enemies.
The basic idea is simple, just a traveler taking requests to help out people who are having problems with the supernatural kind. Its stories are told in a calm, soothing yet mysterious manner. I would lay down in bed with a hot drink as I watch every mystery unfold like the petals of a lotus gently blooming.
Before I knew it, as the end credits rolled out for the season finale, I sat up straight, smiled and let out a gentle solitary applause.
I honestly feel sad for those who can’t appreciate the real beauty in this show.
I still have a couple more shows to watch, mostly mainstream crap. Don’t think I’ll be reviewing those, though :p
