Midori Days – Manga >>> Anime

September 27th, 2006

I just have to blog this.

A little over a week ago, I suddenly felt like downloading some manga [manga is plural, I believe]. So, I started looking for familiar titles. I’ve had enough of Naruto for now, so I browsed through my list for anything interesting. In the end, I decided to grab the Midori no Hibi and Tenjou Tenge manga.

I picked those two titles for a very simple reason: the anime was just not enough.

Seriously. I read a bit about every anime I have watched on various websites, especially wikipedia. One of the significant things I learnt is that there are usually a lot of story left out of the anime that was originally in the manga. I usually consider manga as canonical for any series [except maybe Full Metal Alchemist, lol], so this is quite a big deal for me.

Anyway, yesterday, the Midori no Hibi downlaod was complete, and after a long tiring day of studying and meeting lecturers, I decided to chill out with it. Little did I realise I was in for a major surprise.

It’s a full pack of 85 chapters in 8 volumes, and guess what? I finished all of it in one sitting. I just couldn’t stop reading! It’s got everything; romance, comedy, drama, action, lame jokes, hot chicks, ecchi, you name it. Although the ending is quite predictable, it still is quite heart-wrenching and it did leave me feeling very very satisfied [and a bit teary-eyed].

If you have watched the anime, and think the mere 13 episodes are enough, you’re DEAD wrong. There’s just so much characters and stories missing from the anime that make the entire manga worth the downloading.

If you love Midori no Hibi, you will absofuckinglutely love the manga. This one, I swear. Read it, you won’t regret it. I’ll talk about the Tenjou Tenge manga when its done, and if it satisfies me enough.

I read tenjou tenge manga at my cousin’s house, I believe he has the manga complete, and fuck yeah I just love the shape of their breast, ya rly !!

I just can’t catch up with Naruto as they are all grown up at book 30 or something :S, I believe they are already did before that.

Ganaesh says:

Dude, only 8 volumes? That’s kinda short, even for a romance/comedy/drama/action/lame jokes/hot chicks/ecchi series. :p But I agree that the manga has waaay more stuff than the anime series, although I think the anime did a good job of wrapping it all up nicely in just 13 episodes.

Want another example of manga >>> anime? Take Gantz. The anime is 26 episodes, but it only goes up until volume 5 of the manga. The manga? 20 volumes done, and what do I get at the end of Volume 20?

“End of Phase (Part) I.”

WTF.

Silencers: Well, it IS a just a straightforward romance comedy. We all know it’s bound to end with the protagonists finally becoming a couple and what not. There’s no need to drag the whole thing forever. Unless there’s a real plot going on then of course it would go on for a while.

Fird says:

Some mangas are short, some are long, some even appear eternal. Personally, I prefer the shorter ones, and make me feel good right after finishing it. (I hate anticipation, so I don’t like eternal manga very much).

Anyways, Midori rox :D

Silencers: Yeah, now I’m reminded of the manga that seemed like they would go on forever, like Dragon Ball [with Z and GT it almost seemed like it would NEVER end], Dragon Quest and now Naruto, lol.
