We’ll Remember You, Steve

September 4th, 2006

My heart cries in sadness and shock as my eyes trailed the words that lined the news article saying that Steve Irwin, the world-famous Crocodile Hunter just passed away. From The Courier Mail;

“He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It appeared that he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest, Queensland Police Inspector Russell Rhodes said.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that’s when it occurred. Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

Mr Irwin, 44, was killed just after 11am, Eastern Australian time.”

This is probably the first piece of news. I’m waiting for the full report, as this is too shocking as well as it is too sudden. I mourn the loss of such a great wildlife activist as well a passionate speaker against killing animals as a sport. He was gifted with an absolutely charming personality and made him an instant favourite on Discovery Channel.

Spare yourself a few moments to mourn this tragedy and say a prayer for Steve and his family.
