I Won An Autographed CD!

April 14th, 2006

I first met Kevin as Albert‘s friend who drops by to see him [not me] in the office [back when I was working for Astro] and talk about music and/or Transformers. I chip in a little bit here and there since I sit next to Albert.

After that, the only time I did meet Kevin was when we went to buy toys. Even then, Albert was with us and we would have no reason to meet up if he didn’t. I didn’t know he was a musician. All I knew back then was that he plays and the guitar, writes and sings his own songs.

But I never knew he was actually a freaking real musician. As in, a musician with his own album in production [Yes, I know you make friends with PLENTY of musicians and celebrities, so shut up please XD I don't meet cool people as often as you do]. Sure, I can make music by tapping on a freaking pail as though it’s a kompang but that doesn’t make me a musician now, does it?

I only found out about it while chatting during another hangout session. So, out of curiosity, and that I wanted to show some moral support to a personal friend, I attended a free gig at Hartamas, and it’s the first time I saw him play. He was on stage by himself and his acoustic guitar [and he brought out an electric one for another song], and you know what? It totally blew me away.

I could not possibly believe that this guy doesn’t have his song aired on radio [that time, not yet lar. I think Xfresh FM plays his songs now, and they totally support him.].

Unfortunately, I only managed to make time to watch him perform one more time, I’ve missed plenty of gigs that he performed in. But before that, I went over to his site and gave a listen to the songs that he put to stream online. They were great! Sure enough, when I saw him performing again, I really did enjoy myself.

A few days ago, he announced [through his mailing list] that his debut album is out for distribution, and the first 5 people to reply to that email gets a free copy of the CD. I replied, in hopes of getting one, and I won! It was truly a pleasant surprise for me. He calls himself Broken Scar, and his debut album is titled Midnight in St. Kilda.

So today I met up with Kevin at McD so he could hand the CD over to me personally [instead of sending by mail, as he originally offered]. There was another reason why I wanted him to hand it to me personally;

Why, to get his autograph, of course!

We just lepaked and chatted,…and chatted,… and kept on chatting for over 2 hours. It’s kind of strange because it’s not like we chat online that often, nor do we see each other on a regular basis. I know nuts about his field [music] and he knows nuts about mine [visual art].

“This is like, the smallest Double Cheeseburger I’ve ever had!” – Kevin

It’s as though we disregarded our differences and talked more about the things we share in common; Science, urban legends, Mythbusters, movies etc. I found it surprisingly easy to get along with him despite the fact that we live totally different lives. It’s almost as though we’re regular friends who see each other everyday. It’s cool and all, but it’s just,… yeah.

It was a pleasant surprise.

So anyway, do visit his site and listen to some of his songs. No, I won’t make copies of his CD even if you beg me to. In fact, it’s even better that you get it from the man himself. He’d be more than glad to autograph and deliver it to you [personally,even, if you're in Klang Valley lar]. I assure you he’s definitely a great guy to make friends with.

Rock on, dude!
