While I’m not exactly a big fan of J-Pop, I think Shimokawa Mikuni is absolutely awesome.
If you’re an avid fan of anime and/or Japanese music, you are right if you guessed that I got hooked to the songs she sang for the Full Metal Panic [FMP] series. I’m not the most musically adept person around, so I can’t really describe why I love her songs so much, LOL. While she’s not as popular as other singers like Hamasaki Ayumi or Hikaru Utada , her songs are deceptively easy to find. But since she releases her songs as singles, it might get a bit tricky.
There’s something about Mikuni’s songs that are so melodious it gets addictive. My all-time favourite would be Sore Ga Ai Deshou [Isn't That Called Love], the OP for FMP: Fumoffu. Another great one would be Minamikaze [South Wind], the OP for FMP: The Second Raid. If you have the lyrics [and know some Japanese] singing along is unbelieveably easy and fun! Most of her songs leave a pleasant feeling after listening to each one [especially if you sang along XD].
Anyone who wants a taste of joyful delightful and fun music should find her songs. This is music you will never hear on local radio [and such songs are usually the best]. I’ve been searching for her albums but as expected, hers doesn’t reach our shores. Here I list some of my favourites;
Sore Ga Ai Deshou (Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu OP)
Minami Kaze (Full Metal Panic!: The Second Raid OP)
All The Way (Kino’s Journey OP)
Tomorrow (Full Metal Panic! OP)
