Cure For The Itch
May 18th, 2005Went to the clinic today, and the doc sold me a bottle of skin lotion, a bar of medical soap and some itch-killer pills. So far the itch hasn’t really died down, so I guess it needs a few days before the stuff takes any effect. All that for a whopping RM 24. I wonder if that includes the doc’s service charge, hm..
After that I went to a bakery that was conveniently right next door. This happens to be a bakery I used to frequent a lot back was I was in secondary school. Simply because it was less than a hundred metres away from school and that I used to walk home from school pretty often.
I remember those hot sunny days, when the clouds just shy away from sun denying me of any cover from the blistering heat. I would just make a quick walk towards the bakery, step inside to enjoy a few minutes of air-conditioning before stepping out with a RM1.20 tuna bun in my hands.
This time, too, I bought the very same tuna buns, two of them, just for memory’s sake. Sure enough, they still make the same tuna buns I just loved. Oily tuna flakes mixed with generous helpings of mayonnaise, and buns were tucked with several slices of chicken ham. When baked, the edges of the chicken ham would turn crispy and the tuna’s flavour would seep into the buns. Every bite you take will leave your mouth relishing in a burst of flavour rich in savoury sweetness. It’s the kind of satisfaction you can get only in that one particular little shop you can trust.
It’s that kind of a hidden quality, a diamond in the rough that you tend to miss out when you’ve drowned yourself in other pricier lavish things. And what do you know, while I was munching on those buns, I completely forgot about my itching right arm.
And it only costed a measly RM 2.40 for two heavenly humble pieces of tuna buns.

Aiyah, yesterday nite I wanted to tell you to buy Zyrtec (an antihistamine) to reduce the itch, apply calamine to sooth and don’t scratch. Tapi takut Dr Quack ni cause more problems instead ‘cos I only treated 6 yrs old boys.
